American Curl
History:
The origins of the American Curl started in Lakewood, California, 1981 where there lived an American Curl named Shulamith with the family of Joe and Grace Ruga. There seemed also to be a tom cat (male cat that is un-neutered) named Panda that lived nearby.
When Shulamith gave birth to her first litter they found out that the gene for curled ears was dominant. Selective breeding began in 1983.
Physical Traits:
*Medium sized cat
*Curled ears (studies have been shown that unlike the Scottish Fold it is not bad to have multiple cats in a litter with this genetic mutation, it is quite normal when bred with another breed at least half will have curled ears)
*Short and long hair
What does it take to keep one?
*These cats have medium energy, and they keep their kitten like attitude throughout their whole adult life.
*Health: There are no particular health problems but regular check ups will ensure healthiness
*Grooming: They are fairly easy to groom a couple times a week brush them
*When the ears start to curl: Until the cat is 16 weeks the ears will continue to curl and uncurl it starts at about 4 weeks,
(I was not able to find an average price range, sorry!)
